Rhino Returns!

Remember THIS post from last October?

Well...since then Rhino has been out of commission. Emmie still tried to play with him but she was so sad that he didn't work anymore so The other night Matt decided to perform surgery.

Unfortunately the surgery was unsuccessful...sad...

When we told my dad about the surgery and he found out that there was no more rhino in the Coleman household he got on Ebay, put in a bid...and a few days later a new...more durable Rhino arrived. Thanks Dadoo!

We've been having a good time with him!

FHE Week 3 & 4

Week 3
Week 3 was really lame for us - Matt was spending his first week of his last semester sick as a dog with and upper respiratory infection (yuck!) and Emmie wasn't feeling good either and was down with an ear infection (for a few days I wasn't the only one up in the middle of the night tossing and turning!) BUT we did end up doing a mini FHE during dinner. I had just taught Sharing Time in Primary so I had a jar full of our Primary kids responses to "how does Heavenly Father show his love to you?" so we read those during dinner and called it good for that week! One of my personal favorite responses, "He gives me pizza." classic.
Week 4

We had a lesson on being kind to animals. We had a good time making animal noises and giving all the animals in Emmie's zoo box hugs and kisses. Yet again, we sang The Wheels on the Bus. (I tried to sing an animal song but Emmie wouldn't have it) we said a prayer and ate some ice cream. It was a fun time!

Only 10 more to go!

I hit my 30 week mark today! unbelievable.
Matt was looking at this family genealogy book with my mom today and they were finding all kinds of names that Matt was actually interested in (YEAH!...up until now whenever I suggest a name it's..."yah, that one's okay") so we'll see if we get some more options going!

Emmie's not going to know what hit her when we bring home a baby brother...I keep telling her that baby brother is in mommy's tummy and she really seems to care less...or at least not understand at all. Sometimes she'll look at her baby doll - then look at my tummy and give me this look like, "yah right mom...like there could really be a baby doll in there!"

To her credit though, there has been a sweet moment or two when she'll gently rub my tummy, give it a kiss, and say something I don't understand to it. Sweet girl.

And this picture is just because she's so dang cute! Enjoy!

Emmie gave me my camera and just stood there saying "cheese" until I snapped this picture...ha! Do you love the arm band or what?

Cleaning Out

So I'm in nesting mode and there are some things that just got to go! If you would like one or all of these things they are yours just come and get 'em! I'll also throw in a few cans of Krogger Turkey Gravy!!! (don't ask).

These boards have just been sitting in the closet for 2 years because part of me has been thinking that eventually I would turn them into something...and now there is another part of me that is saying: GET THEM OUT OF THE CLOSET!!!! and Matt see's no point in keeping the racket since he hasn't hit the court in a long time....

If no one wants them...it's all good Matt is itching to drop some things off at Goodwill! (Matt's idea of a productive Saturday end with a sizable drop off to Goodwill. My idea of a productive Saturday is going to Goodwill...dropping 5-10 dollars and coming home with an arm full of treasures!

FHE week 2

Okay...2 weeks in (and honestly I almost forgot about it) but yeah - we did it!

Emmie spent the majority of the time like this:
rolling all over the floor, taking her arm in and out of her shirt.
Finally she settled down and we talked about Jesus in the Ensign pictures (which turned into pointing out all of the noses we could find in the Ensign...she's 2...).

We ended with singing the Wheels on the Bus (Emmie's choice), a prayer, and then a treat (which she got to eat this time since she ate her dinner (yeah!).

Happy Sabbath!

My favorite moment:

Matt: Emmie do you know what that is called?
Emmie: huh?
Matt: It's called a Mullet.

(it was some picture in the illustrated family Book of Mormon...not the one in the photo)

3 Books in 2 weeks (and a few days...)

During the 2 week break over I devoured these three books:

I've already mentioned this one...the back of the book may make you think "what? weird." but it was a page turner...a nice, clean, page turner.

Description

Grade 7 Up--In a not-too-distant future, the United States of America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war, to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 districts. Each year, two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts, the televised games are broadcasted throughout Panem as the 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors, literally, with all citizens required to watch. When 16-year-old KatnissÆs young sister, Prim, is selected as the mining districtÆs female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart, Peeta, the son of the town baker who seems to have all the fighting skills of a lump of bread dough, will be pitted against bigger, stronger representatives who have trained for this their whole lives. CollinsÆs characters are completely realistic and sympathetic as they form alliances and friendships in the face of overwhelming odds; the plot is tense, dramatic, and engrossing. This book will definitely resonate with the generation raised on reality shows like ôSurvivorö and ôAmerican Gladiator.ö Book one of a planned trilogy.Jane Henriksen Baird, Anchorage Public Library, AK

This is the second of the series. The third will be coming in August. If I had known how addicting these books would be I wouldn't of started them until Summer! sheesh! I may have to start a count down for the third book! And I may just have to be one of those nerds who go and pick up there copies at midnight...we'll see.
This one I picked up on a whim at Wal-mart right before our Seattle trip after seeing that one of Matt's buddies bought the book as a Christmas gift for his wife. The movie trailer made me think that this was some sort of scary story...(it will be interesting to see what the movie does with the story) but it was good! caution: I did skip over some pages that made me blush and another that twisted my stomach with the whole murder of it all...but over all it was a great and intriguing read...unexpectedly uplifting. I ended it with a sigh and a smile. I would recommend it.

Description

My name was Salmon, like the fish; first name, Susie. I was fourteen when I was murdered on December 6, 1973. My murderer was a man from our neighborhood. My mother liked his border flowers, and my father talked to him once about fertilizer. This is Susie Salmon. Watching from heaven, Susie sees her happy, suburban family devastated by her death, isolated even from one another as they each try to cope with their terrible loss alone. Over the years, her friends and siblings grow up, fall in love, do all the things she never had the chance to do herself. But life is not quite finished with Susie yet ..."The Lovely Bones" is a luminous and astonishing novel about life and death, forgiveness and vengeance, memory and forgetting - but, above all, about finding light in the darkest of places. 'Spare, beautiful and brutal prose ..."The Lovely Bones" is compulsive enough to read in a single sitting, brilliantly intelligent, elegantly constructed and ultimately intriguing.' - "The Times". 'Moving and compelling ...It will put an imperceptible but stealthily insistent hold on you. I sat down in the morning to read the first couple of pages; five hours later, I was still there, book in hand, transfixed.' - Maggie O'Farrell, "Sunday Telegraph".

Family Home Evening Week 1

One of our New Year's Goals is to get better at doing our Family Home Evenings more regularly - I know with baby boy coming soon we won't be perfect at it...but we are sure going to try!

Week 1
Lesson & Activity: Matt - How to use screwdrivers
Song: Emmie - The Wheels on the Bus
Prayer: Mom
Treat: Chocolate squares
(sadly we didn't eat these...well at least Emmie didn't...she refused to eat her healthy dinner and only at crackers and milk...maybe next time she'll eat dinner so she can have her treat...)

Emmie tid bit

A few Sunday's ago after trying to get this little girl's nose clean and failing:

Matt: "Emmie, do you like having boogies in your nose?"
Emmie: "Yah, sure"

New Years in Seattle

All of these pictures turned out a little on the dark side....maybe that's because Seattle is kind of a dark place to be...The sun didn't peak out it's happy face once the entire trip...of course the week before it was supposedly gorgeous - go figure! Not that I minded much - it's a nice change from the constant sun of AZ! We had a great time visiting all the family and Emmie LOVED playing with her cousins!

Wednesday night we pulled in pretty early....6:00ish. Emmie was delirious after missing her afternoon nap - oh the difference a nap makes! But we can't complain much - she was a dream on the flight - watched movies...ate snacks...open and closed the window blinds about 100 times....and best of all there were two other babies who screamed the WHOLE time- so any squawks Emmie made weren't even noticed - everyone was too busy trying to ignore/drown out the others! Those poor parents...and kids...both were exhausted by the end of it!

just look at those tired eyes!

New Year's Eve: Seattle Science Center
Playing with the water hoses
looking at dinosaurs with grampa Coleman

Playing withe the sand in the tide pool...Emmie did not want to leave this one!
She was eating her corndog so funny...upside down and then dipping the stick in the ketchup and licking it off...we had to get a picture.

Later that day some of the cousins came over for the festivities - lots of running around (much to granma's headache...) watching movies and old videos of Christmas' years ago - pretty fun.

New Year's day:
Playing with Cousin Hallie - those two were pretty cute together!Emma LOVED this little girl! Emmie did pretty good with getting picked up all the time...she barely squawked about it...that surprised me!

Saturday: Time to Go
So cute!
Emmie with Granma and Granpa Coleman dropping us off at the airport. It was a short but fun trip! We love you guys!

Becky let Emmie keep this ball she found at the house...Thank you Becky! It made the wait at the airport go by super fast!
