Emmie's First Hair Cut

The Parental Negla-Mullet if finally gone. I caved and let Matt cut Emmie's hair. I did want to wait until a "monumental time" like her 2nd birthday or something, but it was just too nasty. We didn't know exactly what we were doing but it turned out great - thanks to Elmo, the towel holding her arms down, and Matt's mad hairstyling skills.
Check out the longness - totally rad.
(don't mind Matt, he had just gotten back from helping a family move)

Elmo, you are wonderful!

I have yet to get a good picture of her cute new bob, but trust me, it's adorable. She looks so grown up.

The first clip, I almost felt like crying. She just didn't have hair for so long that now that she does it almost seemed a crime to cut it off - even if it was long and mullet-ish. But we are glad we did and Emmie doesn't even seem to notice - she's just to busy doing other things besides worrying about her hair (I wonder how long that stage lasts).

a whole lot of learning going on

Any one else love the smell of school? ahhh....refreshing. There's nothing like walking into a classroom at the beginning of the year....not knowing quite what to expect - and then be pleasantly surprised at all the learning going on in just the first few days of class....This year's going to be good - I can feel it!

Decimal system
100 board
metal insets....is anyone else aware that the real name for an oval is ellipse? An oval is actually egg shaped -no lie
red rod maze
spindle box
multiplication with the colored bead box

Goodbye Friend

Today, after some wonderful long months, we said goodbye to the Marimba we were housing for one of Matt's good percussion buddies. At first it was a nuisance - always in the way, taking up too much room...but then it started to grow on me. I loved that Matt could spend more time at home, rather then in the ASU basement and I also loved the music it filled our home with....even if it usually was some weird pleepedy-bloopedy modern stuff that made no sense to me.

As the new owner came and took it away I found myself getting a little teary. I think it might be time to start saving our pennies so Matt can actually have one for keeps some day.
